mashonalandPicNomads Golf was first established in South Africa 1960. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.

Nomads Golf Flourished in South Africa and a club was established in Zimbabwe. There are now three clubs on Zimbabwe which operate under the umbrella of the controlling Zimbabwe body.

Nomads Golf in Zimbabwe holds its National Tournament annually and has field of up to 240 players.

The Nomads Movement has also spread to Botswana, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and Swaziland. Today there are close to 3000 Nomads spread around our clubs, all committed to our ideals of benefiting the game of golf and, in the process, raising substantial funding for causes that lend support for those less fortunate than ourselves.

  CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER

Dear Fellow Nomads,

Greetings to all Nomads and their families. Those of you who played at Norton Country Club, the golf course was in the best condition we have seen it in for some years.

We had a field of 110 players with no prospectives, 4 guests and 5 no-shows.

The Norton game was kindly sponsored by the Norton Nomads namely, Saul Rukatya, Captain Vitalis Muzenda, Raymond Munyaka, Tawanda Chiuta & Passmore Dzengwe represented by Saul Rukatya who was presented with a Nomads Certificate of Appreciation.

Many thanks go to the C.E.O. of Trople C, Ian Kernnaird and who was represented by Norton Country Club Manager, Lizzy and her team, for all the hard work they put into the club and in particular the course.

Norton Captain, Vitalis played an amazing round of golf and he expressed gratitude to Mashonaland Nomads for their continuous support for Norton Country Club.

Thank Yous.

Our Nomads ladies Alison and Lyn, being short-staffed, you coped admirably. We can never say thank you enough for your contribution to our monthly meetings. You really make it happen for us, the registration, compilation of results, raffles, etc.

The ladies’ dedication to Nomads, particularly for no remuneration, is amazing and we are truly blessed to have these ladies looking after us at every monthly game.

To our starters, Honorary Life Member Greg Pozzo and Rod Bennet, you did it so well gentlemen and we are forever grateful for your contribution to our great Club.

A special thanks also goes to Mike Linforth for producing the portraits for the Captains, that are displayed at the Nomads House, at no cost to the Nomads.

ON THE SICK LIST.

Ben Ajidah is still recovering. We are hoping that he will come back to play golf very soon.

Warren Stead suffered a broken ankle on 1st January whilst in the U.K. and he too is recovering quite nicely. He is now able to walk without crutches and has started physiotherapy. He’s hoping to start playing golf again soon.

We wish these gentlemen a speedy recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Should anyone of you know a member of Nomads who is sick, please kindly inform the Captain or any of the Committee members.

FINES MASTER

Mark Ruck gave a very good fines session, he finished off with a lesson to clarify the difference between “having guts and having balls.” Please don’t try any of the illustrative examples given, at home..

Many thanks to Mark for a fantastic, humorous and thoroughly enjoyable fines’ session.

Mark, we very much appreciate your effort and your support to our great Club.

Gentlemen we are always looking for a new face to do a fines session at one of our games, so please if you feel you can extract some money from our fellow Nomads and still leave them with a smile on their face, which isn’t a difficult job, then please speak to our Public Relations Officer, Shane Zangel.

  1. Professional Golfers may be invited to play in monthly games and would be handicapped as follows:-
    1. Touring Pro’s would have a handicap of +6 (6 points deducted from gross points).
    2. Club pros would have a club handicap and thus would be adjusted as per normal guest adjustments.
    3. All professional golfers would NOT be eligible for NTP’s or longest drive prizes.

Finally, there was approval by National Council for Mashonaland Nomads to change their playing shirt from the current white golf shirt with a green collar to an all-white playing shirt, that has the member’s name and the Nomads logo embroidered in the standard Nomads green and to off-set the cost burden on members, the club is exploring the possibility of finding a shirt sponsor whose logo/mark may appear on the back of the shirt below the collar or on the shirt sleeve and preferably in a manner and size that is less prominent than the Nomads logo.

“No Man is an Island entire of itself

Every man if a piece of the continent; a part of the main.

Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind

And, therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.”

-From the meditations of John Donne (1573 – 1631)
